Broadband Switching Guide
Many people want to make savings on their broadband bills by
changing to a new supplier but for various reasons they never make the jump.
It's quite natural to have concerns about the connection speed, the cost and
the hassle of moving to a new provider. YourHomeBills.com have put
together a short guide to answer your questions and help you to make a
decision, one that could end up helping you to save money on your broadband bills.
Why move to broadband?
Broadband internet
connections are very fast and always on which means you don’t need to dial up to
get a connection. Broadband is advancing all the time and connection speeds and technology are changing all
the time – as a customer you can switch and get a cheaper deal and a faster
speed in less then five minutes. It used to be that a 1Mbps speed was fast but
we are already seeing the first ADLS2+ suppliers emerging who can provide
connection at up to a staggering 24Mbps.
For some people it’s not all about the speed, particularly if
you download very few files each month, and so you may do better by finding a
cheaper deal than your current supplier is offering you. It’s well worth
searching the market and where better to do that than at YourHomeBills.com

UK
broadband availability
Broadband availability now reaches around 99% of all
UK
homes and businesses. BT has continued to remove any limits concerning the
distance of lines from the exchange and almost all lines should now be able to
receive broadband. It
is only a very small percentage of lines and exchanges that are unable to
receive the service.

Local
Loop
Unbundling
In a move to make broadband more accessible and improve competition in the home phone market
further, Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) was introduced. The local network (copper
local loop running from exchange to customer's home) is made available by the
incumbent operator (e.g. BT) for other companies to use. These alternative
operators are then able to upgrade individual customer lines to offer high
speed internet access without having to go through the incumbent operator.
Customers who live in areas where LLU is available may be able to get broadband without having
to pay BT for line rental - instead the customer can choose to take line rental
from the new provider or not at all if they don't make calls.
